Kansas City Royals star pitcher Willie Cintron is found dead of a heroin overdose on the day of the American League Championship Series final game. The rival New York Yankees are not the only ones to benefit, however, and suspicion grows when a popular New York sports columnist alerts the police. Although initial evidence points to suicide, Lieutenant Joe Dante and his partner Jumbo Richardson are not convinced.
