Loren Swift Mystery / The Dark Side / Doug Hornig

Babel is a small community in rural Virginia that is almost reminiscent of the 1960s. Its members are confident that they are not only able to support themselves, but also to show the world how to live similarly upright lives. But when one of Babel’s leading citizens dies of carbon monoxide poisoning, apparently the victim of a malfunctioning gas detector, his widow sues him for millions. The manufacturer of the detector hires private detective Loren Swift to investigate. Swift encounters a tangle of motives and ambiguities that eventually points to murder. He is paired with the tough, intelligent detective Sally Hatch, and soon they are entangled in the tangled intricacies of Babel. They are also in danger, which is resolved rather violently but deliberately not neatly.
