When Jack Williams is found shot dead, investigating police officer Pat Chambers calls his acquaintance and Jack’s best friend, private investigator Mike Hammer. Back when they fought together in the Marines, Jack was hit by a Japanese bayonet and lost his arm to save Hammer. Hammer vows to identify the killer before the police and take deadly revenge. His starting point is the list of guests at a party in Jack’s flat the night he died: Jack’s fiancée, a former drug addict, a beautiful psychiatrist, twin sisters, a college student and a mobster.
