A routine case becomes private detective Harry D’Amour’s worst nightmare when he comes across an occult sect whose followers want to resurrect their dead leader Nix. The dark master, called “the Puritan” by his followers, was a great illusionist in his lifetime and was murdered 13 years ago by his best student of magic, Philip Swann. Today Swann is a famous stage magician himself, which is why his worried wife Dorothea fears a late revenge by the fanatical Puritan disciples. To protect her husband, she hires D’Amour as a bodyguard. The assignment confronts the investigator with magical forces between illusion and reality that unleash hell on earth.
