In a moment of weakness, Mary Crane, secretary of a real estate agent in Phoenix, US state of Arizona, steals 40,000 dollars from her boss. With the money, she sets off on the long drive to Fairvale. The journey to the Midwest takes many hours. When, to make matters worse, she gets caught in a storm, the exhausted Mary decides to get a room for the night. She finds it at the Bates Motel. Since the construction of a bypass, guests rarely come here. Norman Bates, the owner, doesn’t mind. He is an oddball, avoids the city and prefers to pursue his hobby of stuffing animals. Nevertheless, he is quite open to Mary’s charms. Unfortunately, his mother does not allow him to meet any ladies.
