Ruby / The Marcaboth Women / Viña Delmar

It is the story of a threat to family solidarity, a solidarity built around the person of Zeda Marcaboth, whose strength lies in her acceptance of their humble beginnings, in her determination to build a family unit based not only on the ramifications of the financial empire that alone has given them their place in the sun, but also on the strict rein that inflexible traditions hold over their sons and their sons’ wives. Then the steadfast, noble eldest son Simon enters into a second marriage that threatens to destroy the whole edifice. Ruby is a gold-digger, a mindless, soulless tramp. And everyone (including Simon at the end) knows it.
